The initial appointment is about 60
minutes long plus the time needed to

Almost all insurance companies
require that a mental health diagnosis
be listed on the claim form in order to
validate medical necessity for your
therapy or counseling sessions.
These are all listed in the Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders (DSM) by the American
Psychiatric Association.  I will discuss
the specific diagnosis with you at the
first appointment.
Susan Roberts is a Preferred
Provider, meaning that the fee is
discounted, with the following:

  • BlueCross BlueShield
  • Magellan Behavioral Health
  • Health Alliance
  • United Behavioral Health
  • United Healthcare
There are many different types of insurance
benefits for mental health services which can
often be confusing.  Check with your
insurance carrier right away so you know
what you can expect from them.

I will gladly file an insurance claim for you.
When you first call for an appointment have
your insurance card/information handy.

Also important for you to know:

  • Are your mental health benefits
    covered by the same insurance
    carrier as your medical benefits?
    Sometimes these are different.

  • Do you need a referral or approval
    from your primary care physician?

  • How much will your insurance carrier
cover if I am an “out of network”
    provider?

  • How many sessions per calendar
    year will your plan cover?

  • What is your deductible, and has it
    been met?

  • You will be responsible for any
payment due that is not covered by
    your insurance benefits.  This may
    include deductibles, co-payments, or
    co-insurance amounts.

  • A few insurance carriers require more
than just the diagnostic code to
process payment.  If so, I will discuss
the required information with you and
will likely have you sign an
    “Authorization for Release of
    Information” form.
